We want to change society

our theory of change is simple

Everybody always says that ‘the system is broken’. But we don’t believe that’s true. We think ‘the system’ works. In fact, it works incredibly well for the people it was designed to serve.

‘The system’ can be a little hard to define, as you often can’t see it with the naked eye. But we see it. We see it as all the connections, skills, experiences and favours that come together to help people with privilege keep their power, status, influence and wealth within their social group.

This invisible system of networks, knowledge and know-how is holding us back. It limits social mobility and prevents people from realising their full potential. Which is where we come in.

We want to create a replica system. A system for those of us without such immense levels of social, cultural and economic capital. A bigger, better community of members across the UK who can connect, upskill and empower each other. A network of state-educated people looking out for each other, giving each other a helping hand.

We want to take the very system that is creating social immobility, and use it to create social mobility. And when we’re successful, we’ll have changed the fabric of our society for generations to come.

Here’s how we’re doing it:

CAMPUS

The 93% Club is the UK’s first and largest network of state-educated people. We like to think we’re the country’s least exclusive members’ club.

We bring our diverse community of more than 10,000+ members together both in-person through our events, as well as online in our digital social network.

We do this by coordinating a network of student societies at universities across the country. With our help, these groups organise employability training, careers workshops and social events on campus.

The club is run by a big and bold team of students and volunteers. We’re funded by the profits we make from our employer partnerships, as well as donations from other organisations.

TALENT

Unlike other members’ clubs, our students don’t pay a fee. Instead, we make money from our employer partnerships in a part of the charity we like to call Talent.

Our Talent function is a social enterprise within the charity that provides committed employers the opportunity to connect with the country’s largest network of state-educated students. We do this through our digital job board, online careers platform and through our innovative in-person events.

Talent is run by a small but mighty team of passionate staff and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the The 93% Foundation. This means we don’t have shareholders, so all the profits we make are retained within the charity to fund our society-changing work.

support

When it’s launched, The 93% Fund will be a first-of-its-kind scholarship for state-educated students.

We want to reach the students who aren’t supported by traditional support and offer financial assistance in ways that aren’t covered by existing scholarships.

We’re expecting to provide funding to our first cohort of scholars from September 2023, following consultations with our students and stakeholders over the 2022/23 academic year.
